Statesman Journal Interviews with the FACES photographers more here on the Statesman Journal Website.

The Exhibition
The Faces of Salem exhibition was created with a view to engaging the wider community in exploring the diversity of ethnic cultures that surrounds us in our daily lives.

While World Beat Gallery exhibits are typically produced directly with partners from specified cultural communities, the Faces of Salem exhibit offered the opportunity for everyone to connect with the topic of ethnic cultural heritage and seek creative ways of expression.

SMI has scheduled monthly workshops to help all interested parties meet and learn from each other, become better educated in the methods and processes of documentary photography, and understand more about how to capture compelling images, and write associated narrative. In these workshops photographers from all backgrounds and experience levels were invited to show their Faces of Salem work in order to receive feedback and encouragement. This was meant to be a supportive environment to help all participants grow as documentaries. Workshops were led by Phil Decker.
