SALEM—The Salem Multicultural Institute and AC Gilbert’s Discovery Village are proud to announce the 2011 World Beat Festival Art Contest winners. Each year, children from kindergarten through 12th grade submit artwork based on the Festival’s theme, which this year is Mexico.

Winning artwork will be used in various promotions for the Festival, which takes place on June 25-26 at Riverfront Park in downtown Salem.

Winners are:

First Place High School & Overall – Alanna McCarthy, 10th grade, Blanchet Catholic School
First Place K-8 – Johanna Counts, 7th grade, Blanchet Catholic School

High School Honorable Mention – Anna Davenport, 12th grade,  Blanchet Catholic School
High School Honorable Mention 2 – Esteban Vallejo-Contreras, 9th grade, McNary High School
K-8 Honorable Mention – Nicole Tea-Pelley, 8th grade, Blanchet Catholic School
K-8 Honorable Mention 2 – Ellie Vanden Busch, 7th grade, Blanchet Catholic School

Top School – Blanchet Catholic School

The Salem Multicultural Institute was founded in 1997 to create an atmosphere of openness and appreciation for people of all ethnic backgrounds. The 2011 World Beat Festival will be the 14th annual event.

AC Gilbert’s Discovery Village offers year-round fun with indoor and outdoor interactive exhibits that promote learning through play. The hands-on children’s museum invites families and groups to enjoy a unique educational experience, and is located at Riverfront Park in downtown Salem.
